The Core
A remarkable and iconic building, the award-winning Core is an exhibit
in its own right. Designed to provoke curiosity and pay homage to the
plant engine that powers our world, the structure takes its inspiration
from a tree, with a central trunk and canopy roof that harvests the sun.
Its form mimics nature’s fundamental growth blueprint, the Fibonacci
sequence, with the roof representing a sunflower.
A sunflower is not one flower but hundreds which come together to
create something greater than the sum of their parts: a symbol of
collaboration. At the centre of the Core is the Seed, a 70-tonne granite
sculpture which is a symbol of respect for the plant world and an icon
to promote the sowing of ideas for the future.
