April 2-3: Plant yourself down at spring flower show

April 1, 2011

Eden Project gardeners have home-grown a living room made almost entirely of plants for this weekend’s Cornwall Garden Society Spring Flower Show (April 2-3).

It features armchairs made of fiery foliage, (Heucherra and Heucherella), springy club moss cushions (Tillandsia usneoides), a succulent carpet (Sempervivum and Sinocrassula) and a grandfather clock made of thyme.

The exhibit created by Eden’s temporary displays team also features a birthday cake made of flowers to mark the project’s 10th anniversary.

Visitors can see the homely plant display at Boconnoc House, near Lostwithiel, this Saturday and Sunday.

Alistair Griffiths, Eden's science curator, said: “The overall essence of it is to show that when you’re sat in your living room, everything around you originates from plants.

“The living room is also the place where families get together and share their lives and we’d like to remind people of this simple pleasure and not to always reach for the TV remote.”

The Cornwall Garden Society Spring Flower Show takes place from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

Tickets are £7 for adults and children under 16 go free.

Visit www.cornwallflowershow.co.uk for more details of the event.

After the show the living room display will be exhibited at Eden.
