Celebrating success with Seeds, Soup and Sarnies

November 4, 2011

More than 80 people from opposite ends of the country came together last week to celebrate the success of the Eden Project programme Seeds, Soup and Sarnies over the last two years.

Seeds, Soup and Sarnies is being piloted in the Cornwall china clay area and inner city Middlesbrough and is delivered in partnership by Eden, Cornwall Council’s Family Learning and ContinYou, along with a range of local organisations. The project aims to encourage families to ‘plant, grow, cook, eat and share’ while learning new skills and strengthening community bonds. The scheme is funded by the BIG Lottery Fund and will run until May 2012.

Visitors included five families from Middlesbrough who joined together with families from the local area to share their experiences of taking part in the project and to see the various ideas that have been developed by different groups.

Throughout the week, families visited the keyhole garden at Foxhole Country Primary School, the weekly Whitemoor Coffee Morning, the St. Dennis Children’s Centre group and Penwithick allotments. They also enjoyed ice skating, face painting and story telling at Eden as well as playing games on Par beach and sharing a home cooked meal together.

Sarah Worne, Family Learning Coordinator at Cornwall Council, said: "The families have been swapping postcards with each other for sometime, so it was great for people to be able to meet each other in person, as well as catching up with old friends.”
