Crowns and hundreds of schoolchildren to perform at Eden on Children in Need night: Friday, November 18

November 11, 2011

Rising Cornish stars Crowns will share a stage with Pudsey Bear and hundreds of singing schoolchildren at the BBC Children in Need extravaganza at the Eden Project next week (Friday, November 18).

The folk-punk band from Launceston, who have supported Brandon Flowers, Big Country and The Pogues, will perform a special set in front of the Biomes on the big fundraising night.

Joining them earlier in the evening will be 200 schoolchildren from Cornwall who will come together with thousands of others at different venues across the nation to do a massive choir performance of the song ‘Keep Holding On’ by Avril Lavigne. The young singers are being led by the choirmaster Gareth Malone, best known for presenting The Choir on BBC 2.

Eden has been chosen as the South West venue for this year's Children in Need Party for fundraisers. BBC Spotlight will be broadcasting live from Eden throughout the day and evening with presenters Victoria Graham, David Braine and David Fitzgerald hosting. It’ll also be part of the national Children in Need network programme in the evening as well as on BBC Radio Cornwall with Duncan Warren’s evening show coming live from Eden.

Other highlights of the evening will be a glittering lantern parade processing through Eden, performances by the Eden Choir and local musicians, ice-skating, face-painting and Pudsey arts and crafts demonstrations as well as delicious food and drink in the Eden Bakery.

And, of course, the star of the show Pudsey Bear will be there all day and into the night and is planning a skating session on the Eden ice rink, a highlight of the winter season. Teams from BBC Children in Need will be there to collect donations from organisations and individuals.

Normal entry charges for Eden apply during the day while admission is free for the evening from 6pm. Ice-skating throughout the day and evening is £5 a session.

Sarah Hellyar, BBC South West’s Children in Need producer, said: “It's a huge honour to work on Children in Need and every year I've felt very honoured and humbled by the children I've been privileged to meet, the generosity and spirit of the fundraisers and the people who've hosted us right around the South West.

“This year is no exception: the drive and determination of the team at the Eden Project is going to make Friday 18th November's Children in Need Party for fundraisers one not to miss.

“It’s free entry to Eden after 6 o'clock so why not come along and meet Pudsey and join us in making Children in Need 2011 from the Eden Project a night to remember.”

Schools taking part in the performance at Eden are Penrice Community College and Poltair School in St. Austell, Doubletrees School and Hostel in St. Blazey, Richard Lander School in Truro along with Mullion School and Penryn College.
