Eden is perfect place to launch Dick Strawbridge’s new book

August 27, 2010

TV environmentalist Dick Strawbridge and his son James will be launching their new book Practical Self Sufficiency at the Eden Project.

Dick and James are best known for their BBC series It’s Not Easy Being Green, which follows the family as they convert their house in nearby Tywardreath into an ecologically- friendly but modern place to live.

Currently, the duo are running courses on green living from the family home and regularly contribute to newspaper and magazine discussions on environmental issues.

Their new book, which they will be signing at Eden’s Visitor Centre on September 1, is aimed at encouraging people to adopt a more self-sufficient lifestyle. Topics range from reusing and recycling, to solar and hydraulic power, to keeping livestock and setting up a greenhouse.

There’s also a chapter entitled Traditional Knowledge about jam-making and beer-brewing as well as woodwork and metal skills.

Over the years, Dick and his family have filmed several episodes of It’s Not Easy Being Green at Eden and have even used some of the attraction’s compost on their sustainable farm. Dick has also delivered talks on green living at Eden.

The book signing will take place in Eden’s Visitor Centre on Wednesday September 1, from 2pm to 4pm.
