Eden Café summer gigs continue

Friday night gigs at the Eden Cafe are continuing throughout the summer with new dates announced for August.
The Café, situated in White River Place, will be kicking off this month’s offering of live music with The Tom James Band on August 5. Tom James, who is currently playing several dates around the region, is tipped for big things this year, and has been compared to the talented singer Ben Howard. Tom will also be accompanied by a drummer and double bass player, both of whom are accomplished session musicians. Tickets cost £3 and £2.50 for concessions.
On Friday, August 12, Jonathan Powell and his band will be making their way to the Café. Hailing from Cardiff, Jonathan is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who released his debut album Forgive this Day in 2009 and was later invited to co-write several tracks for Charlotte Church's latest album. His influences include Elbow and Jeff Buckley, as well as song writing heroes such as David Bowie, Ben Folds and Sufjan Stevens. Jonathan will also be supported by a special guest, yet to be announced. Tickets cost £5 or £8 if bought with a CD.
Moonlet and The Love-Monks, an alternative-folk quintet from West Cornwall will be performing on August 19. With their unique combination of quirky and memorable lyrics and playful folk-inspired music, they are an up-and-coming presence in the Cornish music scene. The band will be supported by Eden Café favourite Tony Haven, whose unique brand of acoustic guitar-tapping takes listeners on a journey that is as beautiful as it is unusual. Tickets cost £3 and £2.50 for concessions.
Greg Humphreys will be playing on August 26. His alternative-pop rock band Dillon Fence emerged from the acclaimed Chapel-Hill, North Carolina music scene of the early nineties and released three albums on Mammoth / Atlantic Records. Dillon Fence amassed a huge following in the US and toured America and Europe with some of the biggest acts of the nineties such as The Black Crowes and Alanis Morrisette. The past few years have seen Humphreys release three solo albums with a folky, genre-hopping bent. Tickets cost £3 and £2.50 for concessions.

All of the gigs take place from 8pm until midnight. Tickets are available from the Café beforehand for a concessionary rate and on the door at full price. Along with a selection of great local beverages, there will be bread and dips along with Provencal ragout, which are available until 9:30pm.
