Eden Project Arts Café Returns for summertime show

26 July, 2010

Cornish clay country collective BackbeatSoundSystem will be headlining the return of the Eden Project’s Arts Café on Friday August 6, in the Core Eden’s education, arts and events hub.

The Summer at the Mothership event marks the return of Arts Café following a break in July for the Eden Sessions, at which Backbeat played on the Biotik stage. This show will be the launch party for their new EP, Navigate the Motivator.

The band already have one EP under their belts – Funky in the Face of Fear, released last summer – and have played festivals around the country, including Glastonbury and the Secret Garden Party in Cambridgeshire. They will be playing at Eden with a brand new five-piece horn section for a special one-off performance.

As well as BackbeatSoundSystem, Arts Café’s resident DJs Jelly Jazz will be playing throughout the evening.

Beth Lewitt, Eden’s events manager, said: “After a short break, we can’t wait to bring back Arts Café in August. We’re really excited that we’ve got one of the South West’s most exciting bands to headline the show with their EP launch, as well as the opportunity to see some fantastic local films.”

August’s Arts Café will see the launch of the Southwest Open Cinema club, part of a national network to make film, arts and culture more accessible for all, as well as workshops and film screenings for guests including Cornwall Film Festival, WTW Cinemas and myCornwall TV. The Marketplace of Ideas will also return, with representatives from Eden’s Great Day Out, Mud Between Your Toes and Play programmes on hand to discuss their projects and ideas with visitors.

Doors open at 7pm and the party goes on until 12.30am. Admission is £7, with a free drink if you book in advance on 01726 811972 or through www.edenproject.com. Visitors who bring a party of ten or more people get free entry for themselves (advance bookings only).

The next Arts Café will be held on September 3, with special guests The Correspondents marking the event’s second birthday.
