Eden's living room made of plants yields top show prize

April 4, 2011

A home-grown living room made almost entirely of plants has won top prize at the Cornwall Garden Society Spring Flower Show.

Eden Project gardeners scooped the prestigious Banham Cup for best overall show garden after judges praised the exhibit's unusual design.

It featured armchairs made of foliage (Heucherra and Heucherella), cushions fashioned from springy club moss (Tillandsia usneoides), and a carpet made of succulents (Sempervivum and Sinocrassula).

There was also a birthday cake created from flowers to mark the project’s 10th anniversary.
Eden’s temporary exhibits supervisor Emma Ball, who created the eye-catching exhibit on show at Boconnoc House, near Lostwithiel, last weekend, said: "It's been a complete surprise to win - all our hard work has really paid off.

"The individual plants we used for each part of the room just came together really well."

Eden was awarded gold for the living room display and won three more first prizes in the show's herbaceous category.

It will now be exhibited at Eden in between the Biomes.
