Have a h-owl of a time skating and screaming at the Eden Project

October 4, 2010

A spooktacular ice rink and scary experience in the rainforest will be beckoning thrill-seekers to the Eden Project over Halloween and October half-term.

From October 23 to 31, Halloweden returns with Eden transformed into a world of secrets and scares.

The popular ice rink – surrounded by pumpkins – is certain to send a chill down visitors’ spines as they brush up on their pirouettes or try skating for the first time. Sessions start on the hour between 11am and 5pm each day until October 29, finishing an hour earlier on 30 and 31.

In the evenings leading up to Halloween, Eden will be staging four special spooky events.

From 6pm to 9pm on Thursday and Friday, October 28 to 29, brave visitors can join a spine-tingling exploration through the Rainforest Biome in darkness on Skate and Scream nights. Mysterious sounds of the jungle created by sonic artist Augustine Leudar will guide participants as they trek through the tropical landscape.

A £10 entry fee includes a skating session, but the scary evenings are only open to people aged 12 or over and unsuitable for those with heart conditions or nervous dispositions.

Richard Good, Eden’s Pollination Team Leader, said: “Skate and Scream will give people a chance to experience the primitive power of the unseen in the Rainforest Biome. In the heat of the rainforest, prepared to be chilled to the bone.”

For younger Eden visitors and their families, the Little Monsters’ Ball will be a chance to dress up in ghoulish costumes for a night of frights and scary delights on Saturday and Sunday, October 30 and 31. The Ball takes place from 6pm until 9pm and costs £7 per person.

Spooky activities will also be on offer during the day throughout half-term week. Visitors to the Wishcraft Tent will be in for a treat with potion making and tantalising tinctures, as well as pumpkin carving, face painting and terrifying tales.

There will be some beautiful guests from the nearby Screech Owl Sanctuary in the Mediterranean Biome, each day from noon until 4pm.

Lovers and haters of bats should also join in on October 27, when spectators can see these amazing creatures up close, from noon until 4pm under the Link Canopy.

The breathtaking Rainforest Lookout will also be open throughout the week offering visitors a bird’s eye view of the tropical canopy from 165 ft up.

Tickets are limited for the Little Monsters’ Ball and Skate and Scream so visitors should book in advance on 01726 811972 or book online at www.edenproject.com

Eden is offering readers a chance to win free tickets to Skate and Scream or the Little Monsters’ Ball. Five pairs of tickets to each event are up for grabs by answering the following question:

In which Eden Biome will Skate and Scream take place?

Entrants should specify for which event they would like to win tickets and state their address and phone number when emailing their answer to mediateam@edenproject.com.
