Lantern parade and fireworks launch Christmas at Eden Project

December 5, 2010

A stunning lantern procession, spectacular fireworks display and stirring Cornish music launched Christmas at the Eden Project this weekend.

The event, part of Eden's Time of Gifts winter season, was the first in a series of festive evenings taking place throughout December.

Visitors took part in a lantern parade which made its way pass the Biomes to a finale featuring a dazzling fireworks display and giant Christmas tree decorated by local schoolchildren.

Traditional Cornish pipe band Radjel and the Eden choir provided stirring musical accompaniment.

Martin Williams, Eden's marketing director, said: "We're bringing a real festive glow to Eden's evenings throughout December when everyone is invited to take part in our lantern processions and enjoy the spectacle."

In addition to the festivities, Eden's ice rink which has been shut due to flooding will be returning on December 17.
