New tactile map of Eden to be unveiled tomorrow: Tuesday July 19

People with visual impairments will be able to experience the landscape and architecture of the Eden Project with the installation of a new 3-D map.

The map has been kindly donated by Lauren Milton, a model-making student at The Arts University College of Bournemouth, who produced the piece as part of her final year project. The model was made entirely of wood, using a mixture of techniques, which included carving all of the buildings and plant beds by hand.

In creating the tactile map, Lauren worked with the Sensory Trust, which helps to make places more accessible and useful for people of all abilities, and Justine Quinn, Interpretation Manager at Eden.  

Justine said: “We’re really pleased to be able to have the map at Eden. Not only will it help visually-impaired visitors to get a sense of the scale and diversity of Eden, but the beautiful craftsmanship will give pleasure to sighted visitors too.”

Lauren will be joining Stuart Spurring from the Sensory Trust on Tuesday to see the installation of the map at Eden. It will eventually go on display in the Visitor Centre.
