NoFit State Circus comes to St Austell town: Saturday, July 16

July 8, 2011

Some of the world’s top circus performers will lead a colourful parade through St Austell next weekend (Saturday, July 16) and the whole town is invited to dress up and join in.

It’ll be the culmination of a day of free workshops and performances by No Fit State Circus - the team behind Eden’s spectacular summer show Labyrinth - and Indian-style bhangra drumming group the Dhol Foundation.

The parade will start at 3.30pm travelling from Biddicks Court into Vicarage Place, up and along Fore Street and ending with a surprise finale in Aylmer Square featuring a circus performer in a giant wheel, unicycling and acrobatics.

Earlier in the day there’ll be weird and wonderful circus skill workshops on juggling, Diablo and hula-hooping taking place outside the Eden Café. Everyone is invited to drop into these sessions from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.

Music will be provided with free drumming and percussion lessons in a studio opposite Costa Coffee next to TK Maxx from 11am to 3pm, starting at the top of each hour.

In the Market House there’ll be free dressing up workshops where visitors can add glamour and glitter to their hats, brollies, wellies and wheels such as pushchairs and scooters. All the embellishments are free – just bring something along to decorate and get dressed up for the parade.

Inside the Eden Café there’ll be free face-painting from 11am to 3pm. St Austell shop staff and stall holders can get involved too by popping in before work from 8am to 9am to get their faces decorated.

The circus event is part of the St Austell Live programme hosted by the Eden Project. The programme is part of the Eco-communities Programme of Development awarded to Cornwall Council by the Department of Communities and Local Government.

Emma Mansfield, St Austell Live programme co-ordinator, said: “NoFit State are one of the world’s top circus companies and they’ll be announcing their arrival in St Austell with a bang before setting up residency at Eden running workshops and performing throughout the summer holidays.

“Everyone’s invited to take part on the 16th and we’d like to get the whole town dressed up, trying out circus skills and bhangra drumming and enjoying the fabulous circus parade.”
