World premiere of The Age of Stupid – Eden Project, March 15

February 26, 2009

The Eden Project is taking part in what may become the world’s biggest ever mass film premiere for the highly anticipated climate change movie The Age of Stupid on Sunday March 15.

The film stars Pete Postlethwaite as an old man living alone in what is a devastated world of 2055, looking at “archive footage” from 2008, asking “why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?”.

Directed by Franny Armstrong (McLibel) and produced by Oscar-winning John Battsek (one Day in September), the £450,000 budget for the film was raised entirely by “crowd-funding” whereby 228 people invested between £500 and £35,000.

Alongside Eden, the film’s “people’s premiere” will simultaneously happen in more than 70 cinemas around the UK, including a solar cinema tent in London’s Leicester Square.

Footage of stars walking up the London showing’s green carpet and a post-film question and answer session will be shown to Eden’s audience via live satellite link-up.

Around 16,000 people are expected to attend across the country – a number the organisers hope will become a world record.

Richard Good, Eden’s Pollination Team Leader, who has organised the premiere at Eden, said: “I’m delighted that Eden can participate in the world premiere of The Age of Stupid. The film takes you on a rollercoaster journey around the world revealing the interdependent nature of our global community and showing how each of us together is making an impact on our future.

”It really makes you think about the responsibility we all share in shaping a positive future because the reality of doing nothing is horrific. Come and see the film and prepare to feel a surge of passion to protect life – your life.”

The Eden showing of The Age of Stupid takes place in the Gallery, costs £10 per person and can be booked through the Eden box office on 01726 811972. Doors open at 5pm with the film starting at 6pm. The Gallery bar will be open for the showing.

All profits from the premiere ticket sales will go to the NOT STUPID climate campaign, supported by Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, WWF and Stop Climate Change Chaos which Pete Postlethwaite will be launching at the Leicester Square event on the night.

The Age of Stupid is released nationwide on the March 20 2009.
