Hip-hop poet Dizraeli to headline Eden's November Arts Cafe

October 22, 2010

The Eden Project's monthly Arts Café night returns on Friday November 5 with a headline performance from Dizraeli and the Small Gods.

Dizraeli is a poet, rapper and frontman of funky dub collective Bad Science and a former winner of BBC Radio 4's Poetry Slam competition.

He is returning to Arts Cafe after wowing crowds last November when he played the night as part of the launch tour for his debut solo album Engurland (City Shanties).

The band will be joined on stage by beatboxer Bellatrix, winner in the female category at the BBN Beatbox World Championships last year. Bellatrix is also a member of female vocal quintet the Boxettes.

Also playing will be London hip-hop trio Sound of Rum, fronted by female MC Kate Tempest. Sound of Rum formed in the summer of 2008 and have played festivals around the country as well as getting air-play on national radio stations.

Arts Cafe's resident DJs Jelly Jazz, ably assisted by DJ Dante Gabriel, will be playing throughout the evening. They will also be helping to run the DJ workshop taking place during the night.

The marketplace of ideas, where people can discuss issues and projects with Eden’s experts, will be joined this month by the Barefoot boutique. Here, young people involved in Eden’s Barefoot Games project will be offering people the chance to find out more about volunteering.

As well as this, there will be free workshops on film-making, animation, dance and arts and crafts. The evening’s performers Dizraeli, Bellatrix and Kate Tempest will also be running workshops on MC skills.

Beth Lewitt, Eden’s Event Manager, said: “As well as some of the UK’s finest live music, November’s Arts Café will see us showcasing the Barefoot Games project, an exciting youth volunteering program. People can come and sample an array of free creative opportunities for all ages while warming the cockles with an evening of music, dancing and merriment.”

Arts Café runs between 7pm to 12.30am, in the Core, Eden’s education, arts and events hub, including free entry to explore the site from 6pm. Admission is £7 including a free drink if booked in advance. People who bring a party of 10 or more guests get free entry for themselves. Tickets are available from the Eden box office on 01726 811972 or through www.edenproject.com.
