Eden’s harvest is global this autumn

September 7, 2009

Eden celebrates the Global Garden Harvest with a cornucopia of events from September 11 to October 23.

Happy harvesters will be able to quiz Eden horticulturalists each weekday learning about harvesting, pruning and the gardener’s to-do-list for autumn.

Visitors can make their mark on the 2010 Eden landscape by planting bulbs and gain ideas for their own displays at home.

They can also enjoy daily cooking demos and learn how to pickle and preserve the season’s garden goodies alongside lessons on how to press apples.

Eden’s eating places will be focussing on seasonal and locally sourced produce including steak, mushroom and Eden Ale pie or sausages with a cider onion gravy.

A big night of celebration, the Big Harvest Festival, takes place on October 17 with the skiffle band, Glitzy Bag Hags, complimenting the hog roast and homemade apple chutney.

Eden’s Marketing Manager, Elizabeth Steel said: “Autumn is the time of year where we reap all our hard work and take stock of what the earth gives to us. It’s an important time to celebrate home grown produce and the transition from summer into winter.

“With many people having rediscovered the joys of “grow your own” we think this autumn is the perfect time to educate visitors about what to do with the fruits of their labour.”
