Eden Project event puts the focus on fruit

The Eden Project is jointly hosting an event with the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for people interested and involved in growing fruit on Monday May 16.

This is the fourth Fruit Focus South West event and they aim to raise the profile and standard of fruit growing in the area.

The first part of the event is themed around juice- and cider-production, with the second part focusing on orchard biodiversity and funding, including a guided walk around Trenderway Farm’s recently planted Heritage Orchard.

The programme is as follows:

1.45pm – Guests arrive

2pm - Liz Copas, National Association of Cider Makers' Orcharding Advisor and Field Trial Officer on 21st Century Cider Apples.

2.30pm - Julian Temperley, founder member of the Orchards & Cider Section at the Royal Bath & West Show on the cider industry and community orchards.

2.45pm - Nick Poole of the Powerstock Cider Festival on the development of the festival.

3.15pm - William Hudson from East Anglian Food Link on marketing for fruit.

3.45pm - Question and answer session.

4pm – A tour of the orchard with Les Davies of Westcountryman Orchard Management.

4.45pm - John Iles, Wyre Community Land Trust on bringing derelict orchards back into use.

5.15pm - Rosemary Teverson from the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on recent research in Tamar Valley Orchards

5.45pm Andrew Ormerod and Caroline Brunel on the Eden Project’s biodiversity survey work around the River Fowey.
