Biscovey boy wins Eden Project fun run competition

September 24, 2010

A student from Biscovey Junior School has won a competition to design the logo for the Eden Project’s fun run on October 9.

Adam Grainger, 10, designed the winning entry, which will be featured on posters and t-shirts given out to everyone who takes part in the race.

His entry was one of hundreds from schools around Cornwall. As well as seeing his design become the official logo for the fun run, Adam was also given an Eden goody bag at a surprise presentation during a school assembly.

The fun run takes a one-mile route around the Eden Project, going through the varied climates of both the Rainforest and Mediterranean Biomes as well as the outdoor gardens. It is being run on the eve of the Eden marathon and half-marathon.

The event takes place at the same time as Eden’s “pasta party” for runners in the following day’s races. Anyone who isn’t running in either of those can buy tickets to the party at Zzub Zzub café on the evening after the fun run.

Tracey Smith, organiser of the Eden fun run, marathon and half-marathon, said: “We really liked Adam’s entry and it’s going to look great on all the t-shirts and posters. It’s a really colourful design and perfectly captures the spirit of the Eden fun run.

“This day will be a great opportunity for local children to run ‘around the world’ through the Eden Biomes and will be the perfect warm-up for the following day’s marathon and half-marathon.

“We’re hoping it’ll be a brilliant event for all our runners, from the junior Jemma Simpsons to those who just want a gentle jog around Eden.”

Entry to the fun run costs £2 per person and includes entry to the Eden Project after 4pm. All runners under 14 will receive a t-shirt featuring Adam’s logo, and all runners will receive a goody bag which will include a themed memento, Divine chocolate and a funky helter skelter cup. Booking can be done through www.edenproject.com.

The fun run is returning for its second year as part of a weekend of running incorporating Cornwall’s biggest race day. Nearly 1,500 people are due to take part in the Eden marathon and half-marathon on October 10.

Entry for this year’s big races is now closed but family and friends of runners receive free entry to the Eden Project on the day of the races.
