Rosie and the Goldbug to play cancer-awareness gig at Eden

March 3, 2009

Rosie and the Goldbug, one of Cornwall’s hottest new bands, are due to headline a free concert at the Eden Project to raise awareness of people’s health.

Following the release of their self-titled debut album in September, Rosie and the Goldbug have toured Europe with Cyndi Lauper, played festivals including Latitude and Bestival and had their record named Album of the Week by Dermot O'Leary on his Radio 2 show.

Other acts on the bill for the evening include Josie Boucharde, Val Baker, Make Me a Hero, The Eyelids, Ape and PELT.

The concert in the evening follows a day of health awareness at Eden, where the entire Gynaecological Cancer team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske as well as a number of other medical experts will be on hand to answer questions.

In particular, the event is aiming to raise awareness of gynaecological and testicular cancer. There will also be the opportunity to sample a range of different therapies, including hypnotherapy and Reiki healing.

Jeanette Preston, founder of the PANTS organisation who have arranged the event, said: “Far too many people are still dying of these cancers, many of which have a very high cure rate if dealt with early. PANTS aims to make it as easy to talk about these cancers as it has become to talk about breast cancer. We want to stop people dying of embarrassment, fear, shame and ignorance.”

The health awareness activities take place in the Gallery in Eden’s main ticketing hall between 10am and 5pm and entrance to the Gallery is free.

The evening concert starts in the Link building at 7.30pm. Entrance is free but tickets need to be booked through the Hall for Cornwall. For booking details and more information, go to www.hallforcornwall.co.uk or call the box office on 01872 262466. For more information on PANTS, go to www.pantsmatters.org.uk.
