Rosie Vanier brings new solo show to Eden Café

July 18, 2011

Avant garde Cornish pop rebel Rosie Vanier, formerly of Rosie and the Goldbug, will be playing at the Eden Project Café in St. Austell on Friday July 22.

Rosie, now an acclaimed solo artist, will be coming to the café following the release of her debut EP, called Ep1, which came out late last year. She is working on an album too, scheduled to be released later this year.

Rosie’s sound during the Goldbug era has matured since going solo and her sultry voice and sassy lyrics are now fused with edgy, hip-hop tinged production.

In her former guise with the Goldbug, Rosie provided the soundtrack for a TV make-up advert and worked with her childhood hero Cyndi Lauper and Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz.

As a solo artist, she is now being managed by Fachtna O'Ceallaigh (who has worked with Sinead O’Connor and Boomtown Rats) and is collaborating with Marco Pirroni, guitarist and songwriter for Adam and the Ants.

Dan Ball, Eden Café manager, said: “Rosie has a lot of fans in the area but doesn't often gig here so we're really excited to see her playing in St. Austell. Her song craft has got better and better since she went solo and she always brings venues to life.”

Rosie grew up in Bodmin Moor and studied music at Roehampton University before returning home to Cornwall to form Rosie and the Goldbug in 2007 with bass player Lee "Pixie" Matthews and drummer Sarah "Plums" Morgan. They toured Europe with Cyndi Lauper in 2008 before splitting up a year later.

The Eden Café show starts at 8pm on Friday July 22 and entrance is £3 on the door or £2.50 for students, people who have pre-booked or Eden ticket-holders. Food is served from 8pm to 9.30pm and there will be a cocktail menu starting from £4 as well as a full bar.

The Eden Café will be hosting live music on weekends throughout the summer, with The People’s String Foundation following Rosie on Friday July 29. Information on future dates can be found at www.edenproject.com/cafe.
